Baby Alive was first introduced to the public’s children all the way back in 1973. Something of an innovation at the time, the doll came with her own diapers, bottle and feeding spoon. The doll allowed children to feed her, using special food that was mixed with water from the tap, by placing the spoon in her mouth and then using a small plastic lever on the doll’s back to make her chew. Children even had the chance to change the doll’s diapers, as the special food was designed to run straight through the doll’s body and in to her diaper. Despite the introduction of games galore, Baby Alive was the top toy for Christmas three years running through the 70s. Baby Alive today is a very different doll although the concept behind her remains the same, in terms of being as close to realism as possible. Now owned by company called Kami, the doll is much-advanced from the 1970s version. The doll now comes in a variety of versions including “wets and wiggles”, which sees the doll wet her diaper, while giggling and wiggling with delight.
